Sound Start Babies Program
Helping babies and toddlers get the Sound Start they need
The mission of Sound Start Babies Program is to ensure that infants and toddlers identified with hearing loss and their families receive the highest quality, research validated educational services provided by individuals who are selected for their knowledge and sensitivity to meeting the varied needs of the children and families they serve. The program offers a range of services and communication options respecting family choice and unique child characteristics. The goal of the program is for the child with hearing loss to develop language, speech, and communication skills commensurate with those of hearing peers and for their parents and other caregivers to have the information and strategies to foster this development throughout childhood.
Home-Based Services
The Sound Start Babies Team, including an audiologist, teachers of the deaf, speech/language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to work with your family and your child with hearing loss. The team composition will be tailored to your child and family’s unique needs.
Settings Outside the Home
For families whose babies with hearing loss attend community-based or in-home childcare programs, Sound Start Babies Program can provide services in these natural environments. Our practitioners partner with your child’s daycare providers to educate and train them regarding best practice strategies for supporting communication development in young children with hearing loss.
Nursery
The Sound Start Babies Nursery was opened over a decade ago to provide an exceptional early learning experience where 18 – 36-month-olds, with and without hearing loss, learn side by side in small groups. Our award-winning Nursery program provides a nurturing environment that fosters the skills that support lifelong learning.
Teleintervention
Our team of professionals began to use teleintervention services five years ago and since that early beginning has developed a range of strategies to successfully provide quality services to families using this technology.
Transition Support
As your child approaches this exciting milestone, the Sound Start Babies Program’s expertise and resources are available to guide and support you through the transition to preschool. We provide your family with helpful tools to use when evaluating preschool options as well as effective research-based resources to use when advocating for services and accommodations.
